5.0 out of 5 stars 4.6 Stars: Great kettle with one caveat, January 23, 2009
By
This review is from: Aroma AWK-115S Hot H20 X-Press 1-1/2-Liter Cordless Water Kettle (Kitchen)
[Originally review January 2009 (3 stars), Updated July 2010]
We bought one of these for our home and liked it so much I got another for my office. It is a quick safe way to boil water. It works much better than our teapot on our conventional stove and you can leave the room without worry about all the water boiling out and a possible fire.
It is so efficient that we often use it to heat up water before putting it in a pan on the stove. It is much faster. When we are making pasta we will put a small amount of water in a large pan and fill the teapot. The water in the pot is boiling before the water on the stove. The pot is light, even when full, and has no aftertaste like I have read some of the plastic ones do.
HOWEVER, we had owned our home pot for less than six months when the 'on' switch broke off. The pot was still usable, but you have to reach in and activate it with a fingernail. It was under limited warranty, but that involved mailing it to San Diego at our own... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars looks good AND works like a charm! (updated Feb. 2011), January 1, 2008
This review is from: Aroma AWK-115S Hot H20 X-Press 1-1/2-Liter Cordless Water Kettle (Kitchen)
It's not often that one finds a product that's both visually attractive AND functionally satisfying. This kettle is one of those rare items: the shiny stainless steel body is beautiful to look at, and it boils water very very quickly! It features a nice big and sturdy handle which is very comfortable, and the spout is perfectly designed so that you'd have to be a real klutz to spill things. The cordless feature is wonderful, I tried a cheap ten dollar "Hot Pot" for a day or two and hated having to deal with the cord, plus that model doesn't have automatic shutoff despite what it says on the box---huge fire hazard! There is also a power-indicator light and water-level indicator gauge which are both handy, and I like that there is no exposed heating element inside which would be a pain to clean. Instead it's all smooth clean lines, inside and out!

Sure the outside of the kettle does get a little hot so you probably don't want to have this within reach of toddlers or... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great!, October 1, 2007
This review is from: Aroma AWK-115S Hot H20 X-Press 1-1/2-Liter Cordless Water Kettle (Kitchen)
I bought this after I was so disappointed with a Breville one. The pot does get hot but I don't have any children or pets to worry about. The boil time is very fast and there is no coil on the inside so I do not have to worry about the build-up or rust I have experienced with other kettles. The water tastes good and clean. For this price it is very affordable! I do have to admit that the pot seems a little cheaply made, but I didn't expect much since it seems to be less than half the price of others of the same volume and style. I am very happy with this!!

Update (more than a month later): this is still working so quick and perfectly! I couldn't be happier!

2.0 out of 5 stars small, light, slow boiler, concerns about staying on, February 24, 2011

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
I currently have a T-Fal variable speed tea kettle and so did some direct comparisons between the two. The Bodum lagged in all. It took the T-Fal 2 min 19 sec to boil .5 liters and 3 min 35 seconds to boil a liter. The Bodum took 3 min 17 sec and 5 min 47 sec respectively, a significant difference and one that would certainly be noticeable while waiting. The greater size of the T-Fal is preferable to me as well--the Bodum tops out at the one liter mark, but others may not need a large kettle.

The Bodum is definitely lighter and if someone is concerned about weight, the Bodum wouldn't be a problem at all. It has a relatively small footprint, though not really significantly smaller than my T-Fal.

In general then, with the speed, size, and variabilty--I'd aim people to the T-Fal. But by far the biggest concern I had with the Bodum was its strange propensity to stay on even after boiling. On two occasions the kettle either stayed on or came back on and got hot... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Works just fine, December 6, 2010

There's nothing to it really, an electric water heater so I don't have to light up the stove, wonder if there's a small clean pot, stand there until it boils or forget and let it boil over, etc.
You fill this up, push the ON button, after it boils it turns off. You lift the pot off the base and pour over teabag or into steeping pot, whatever.
I like it because it's green and modern looking. Functionality is so basic there's nothing to complain about.
Like the previous reviewer, I noticed there was no specific OFF button (just the ON button) But the auto shut off worked fine. If you're worried about auto shutoff not working soon enough, unplug after the water has boiled. I don't want bells and whistles, literally, on my tea-pot. One switch is great and the size is perfect for a family of four at breakfast. It's not like we're trying to boil water for spaghetti!

Looks like someone beat me to a 5 star review, but I'm sure we are both very pleased we purchased... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous! AVOID!, February 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This kettle looked so cute and modern that I ignored the reviewers who claimed the fact that there is no "off" button is extremely dangerous. how bad could that really be, right? I bought the red color and thought it looked so perfect in my kitchen. HOWEVER, when my husband woke up to find the kettle STILL BOILING from the night before (though the water had long since evaporated)- he quickly plugged it out of the wall, and it is now on its way back to amazon. not only is this extremely dangerous, but it's also extremely costly! and explains the exorbitant electricity bill we recently received. who knows how many times the kettle stayed on boil for WAY over a minute.

I agree with the reviewer who said this item should be recalled- it's completely unsafe.

T-fal BF6520003 Vitesses 1.7-Liter, 7-Cup Electric Kettle, White

Customer Rating :
Rating: 4.1

List Price : $69.99 Price : $30.93
T-fal BF6520003 Vitesses 1.7-Liter, 7-Cup Electric Kettle, White

Product Description

T-fal's new high-speed kettle employs 1,750 watts of electric power to bring 1 cup of cold water to a rolling boil in one minute. With the kettle filled to its 7-cup capacity, a full boil is achieved in five minutes. That makes the kettle ideal for instant coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or instant soups. To ensure that the water doesn't boil away if attention is diverted, the kettle shuts off automatically once the water reaches full boil. For convenience, it lifts off its corded power base for cordless pouring, can be set on the power base in any direction, and turns on (or off) with a simple push of a button on the handle. Inside the spout there's a removable and washable antiscale filter that extends the kettle's life. With an exterior of hard, gleaming plastic, the kettle wipes clean easily. It's pleasingly plump, has water-level windows on both sides and a cord wrap underneath, and carries a one-year warranty against defects.

  • 1750-watt high-speed kettle boils 7 cups of water in just 5 minutes
  • On/off button located on handle; boil-dry protection with automatic shut-off
  • Variable temperature control; lifts off corded power base for cordless pouring
  • Exterior water-level indicators; concealed heating element; anti-scale filter
  • Measures approximately 8 by 11 by 8 inches; 1-year limited warranty

5.0 out of 5 stars Great electric kettle design!, February 10, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: T-fal BF6520003 Vitesses 1.7-Liter, 7-Cup Electric Kettle, White (Kitchen)
I spent hours researching every electric kettle available (and looking at them in person, in stores) before settling on this one. I've owned it for about 6 months now, and it's been great. The concealed heating element and the simple one-piece plastic jug design make it very easy to clean (not that I've needed to) and leak resistant (I assume, from a design perspective, since mine has no leaks yet). The only way it could leak is if the grommet sealing the metal bottom piece to the plastic jug developed a leak, whereas most of the stainless steel kettles being sold have several parts, many seams, and thus many places a leak could develop. There is some mild browning of the plastic inside the jug, I suppose a reaction to the high heat. This same thing happened with my roommate's older plastic electric kettle, so it's to be expected. People complain about plastic vs. stainless steel, I settled on plastic for one primary reason: it is a better insulator, so not only will it keep the... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good., April 1, 2007
By
This review is from: T-fal BF6520003 Vitesses 1.7-Liter, 7-Cup Electric Kettle, White (Kitchen)
I got more than I expected. Which is good, because it seemed over priced when I bought it. But it was the only one I could find with a truly variable temp control. Now, I think the price was fair.

Pro's

- Variable temprature: This is why I picked this product. I wanted full control of the temp of the water.

- Filtered spout: I don't use it. Could be useful for keeping tea or any other particles in the pot while pouring.

- Dock station: The pot is easily removed from doc, so there is no cord in the way when pouring.

- Hidden Cord: Cord winds up inside the dock. Makes it easy to hide extra cord, if you have that luxury. See Cons :(.

- Insulated: Keeps water hot for a long time.

- Auto off: Turns of when it gets to temperature.

Cons

- 4ft cord: I could use 1 more foot :(.

Wish list:

- Stay On Option: Keeping water at temperature would be a nice option. Rather... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC product!!!, March 11, 2007
By
This review is from: T-fal BF6520003 Vitesses 1.7-Liter, 7-Cup Electric Kettle, White (Kitchen)
I can't imagine anyone not loving this electric kettle. My first one was a gift, received about 5 years ago. It's used numerous times every day and still brings water to a boil as fast as it did for that first cup of tea. The microwave and stove lose the race to the T-Fal. Once the water is at the boiling point for about 15 seconds the kettle turns off automatically. That safety feature rates high on my list of kudos for this product. The handle is extremely comfortable, the pot is easy to fill and pour. We always take our T-Fal Electric Kettle with us when we travel(we have a 4 cup version as well as a 7 cup...I'm sorry they no longer make the small one). I've only been able to find them on line but believe me I never want to be without one.
